Apart from their usual stunning appearance, our beers now have a gold and silver glint to them as well!
As if the sheer joy of making world class brews wasn’t enough, our beers are now winning awards. Appreciation of namma Bengaluru brews at the international level and all!
Our very own Toit Hefeweizen and Tint-In-Wit have shone their beery lights so bright at the Dublin Craft Beer Cup, that they landed a gold and silver medal respectively, while our dear Basmati Blonde got a mention for being unique and full of potential too!
And they had to go through a crazy series of reviews to get there.
The judging process was extremely stringent, based on a point system, with very experienced judges on the panel.
The judging process was extremely stringent, based on a point system, with very experienced judges on the panel. All samples were tasted totally blind after being cooled to the exact temperature for the given style, and beers were served in triple washed detergent free glasses.
They were poured and brought into the judging room only when the judges indicated they were ready for the next sample. The only information the judges knew about the beers they were tasting was the style and any additional information that might be needed for judging.
Each beer had a minimum of four judges mark the score sheets individually and then the chief judge at each table would hold a discussion on the beer and the group would come to a consensus on the score. Where there was no consensus for some reason, the beer would be re-poured and judged by a different set of judges.
The beers were judged using a point system, which looked at a number of things such as whether the beer was a match for the style the submitter wrote on the form, and points were based on a score sheet, which can be found on the Alltech Gathering website.
Here’s what the judges had to say about our babies: *drumroll*
First up, the gold medalist, Bangalore’s version of the Bavarian Hefeweizen, the Toit Hefeweizen- The judges noted that it had a good fruity flavour, was well balanced, had great ester, good foam, and a slight banana and phenolic hint to it, with a light haze, and was overall bready and malty. Phew!
They felt that overall it was an excellent beer with high technical merit and expressly passed their congratulations on to the brewer.
Up next, silver medalist, our adventurous little beer, the Toit Tint-In-Wit. Stating it to be light and slightly yeasty with a citrus spice aroma, the judges found this one refreshing with a light finish. And as feedback for the Basmati Blonde , they said that it was sweet, with a good balance, light acidity, light haze and was overall a very interesting product with great potential. Much blushing on our side followed!

The judges commented that the overall quality of the entries was very high and that even two years ago one would not have seen this high quality in so many of the entries.
