Running a brewpub isn’t easy- it’s a lot of work, a lot of sweat and the occasional tears.
There are a lot of good, earnest people working behind the scenes, who put in a great deal of effort, round-the-clock, to ensure that everything you love about Toit stays that way.
And these people are none other than our never-tiring, ever-inspiring staff.
Our very own Toit Army- a battalion dedicated to the cause of good beer!
Meet the ladies who lay down the law, but always with a smile- our Front Desk Staff, Angela, Shraddha and Rose.
They’re the ones who take the calls, make the reservations, make sure everyone gets a place and that they have a good time.
Where are you all from and how did Toit happen?
Angela: I’m originally from Mizoram, but have been working in Bangalore for sometime now. Sherry, who used to work at Toit’s front desk, is a good friend and she was the one who recommended Toit. This is my first time working in a brewery, and I have been here for one year now.
Rose: I’m from Manipur and even I heard of Toit from Sherry. She used to keep talking about this place, and was the one who made me want to join. I have been a part of Toit for seven months.
Shraddha: I joined very recently. And Angela was the one who made me join. She used to visit me at my previous job and used to speak a lot about Toit. It became my dream to work here.
What is your typical day like? Do you work in shifts?
On a regular day, we start at 11:00 am, and work till 10:00 pm. On weekdays, we are here till 10:30 pm. But we get to take breaks in between, and work in shifts. All of us come to work at the same time though.
What is the most challenging situation you have to deal with involving a customer?
Being at the front desk is a very challenging job. Sometimes, when the place is fully booked, we have to deal with customers who keep asking us for tables or who don’t want to wait, even when they have been informed how long it will take. They just stand in front of the counter and don’t leave. But we have to make sure we’re polite with them.
It is a very challenging job…we have to make sure we’re polite with customers.
So that’s the challenging part. What’s the best experience you’ve had with a customer?
The regulars at Toit are really nice. Some of them go out of their way to say hello and ask us how our day has been, or just to give us a warm smile. They come and have conversations with us even if the place is packed, and tell us we’re doing a good job. Those things make us feel very good.
How is it being a group of girls, and handling the front desk?
It is a challenging job. We stand here and deal with different kinds of customers, and we have to make sure that we are pleasant to everyone. You need to have a certain kind of personality to be able to handle this job.
Have you ever had to get help when a situation gets out of hand?
We make sure we handle all situations between us. There has rarely been a time when we had to call the manager or someone from the management to handle a situation.
So how does it feel working together? Are you guys best friends or do you quarrel a lot?
It’s really awesome. Yes, we are all good friends but sometimes we also quarrel.
What is the most common cause for these quarrels?
Answering calls! We get a lot of calls for reservations everyday and sometimes, if one of us has answered many calls and doesn’t feel like answering a particular call, we make the other one answer. The quarrelling starts when all of us don’t feel like answering.
…we also discuss the different customers we see here everyday. There is a lot to talk about, working at the front desk.
So, do you also do girl-gang things at work?
We have our favourite customers here, the regulars who are a lot of fun. So we do spend time talking about them. And we also discuss the different customers we see here everyday. There is a lot to talk about, working at the front desk.
What is the best thing and worst thing about your job?
Angela: Best- It has taught me how to be patient. Worst- It can get quite tiring.

Shraddha: Best- I love meeting people, and in this job I get to meet lots of different people and make friends. Worst- The standing!
What are your favourite food and drink at Toit?
Angela: In the drinks, I love the Nitro Stout and the Toit Hefeweizen. As for food, I think I like the whole menu! Any food item with the mushroom sauce is my favourite. Every time I eat something, I always ask for extra mushroom sauce.
Rose: I like the Virgin Mojito and, in food, the pizza and chicken wings.
Shraddha– I love the food here. Everything is mouth-watering. Pizza and steak are awesome, and since I’m new, I am going to try everything on the menu slowly.
When you’re not working, what do you do in your free time?
Angela: I love singing so I go sing Karaoke and spend time with my friends.
Rose: I usually stay at home and spend time with my family.
Shraddha: I meet all my friends and go out with them.
..because we are the only girls here, they really take care of us. We’re really spoilt by the management!
If you weren’t working at Toit, what would your alternate career be?
Angela: I think I would be a full-time singer.
Rose: When I first came here, my sister suggested I work as a beautician. But I always wanted to get into the hospitality business. So I think I would still be doing something in this industry, even if I was not working at Toit.
Shraddha: Even I would choose another job within the hospitality industry. I really like this field and the opportunities that I get being a part of it, like making new friends, and interacting with lots of new people.
