The Kudix Mug Holder of the MonthWhen you spend your time photographing adorable babies, life's gotta be good!
At Toit, our customers have always been our primary focus. They’re the ones who bring life to the place, create memories and end up giving the place its familiar, friendly vibe.
And there are so many different kinds of people who come through our doors daily, that we wanted to get to know their stories.
The Kudix Mug Holder of the Month is our little way of celebrating our customers, and their unique stories.
She quit her job to follow her passion, and it helps that it involves being surrounded by the most adorable little babies.
Say hello to Amrita, our Mug Holder of the Month.
Why do you think you’ve been selected as the Kudix Mug Holder?
I honestly think it’s the beer belly!
Fortunately for me, I live next door to Toit and this has become pretty much my ‘Central Perk’ of sorts.
Toit… has become pretty much my ‘Central Perk’ of sorts.
Are you from Bangalore?
I was born and raised in Chennai. I moved to Bangalore 5 years ago on work. But now my heart officially belongs to Bangalore.
You’re a photographer. Tell us a little about what you do.
I’m a maternity, newborn, baby and family photographer and operate under my brand “Mommy Shots by Amrita”. I started this over 2.5 years ago and I consider it the best job in the world given all the adorable little munchkins I get to capture every day.
Why did you decide to specialise in maternal and infant photography as your core?
My sister has twins and when they were born I really got involved in helping bring them up. They are my inspiration. That aside, I’m a big baby-person. I can spend hours with kids and love taking care of them. It was just a natural decision to bring babies and photography together and hence, Mommy Shots was born.
My sister has twins…They are my inspiration.
Birthing photography is becoming a more and more popular field. Is that something you are looking to get into?
I have done birthing photography too. No doubt, the idea has picked up but it will be a while before it becomes a trend. Its a very personal event and I consider it a privilege to be able to share the event with new parents.
What’s the best and worst thing about your job?
Working with babies is the best part of my job. I honestly can’t think of any thing that makes me detest what I do.
In all the time that you’ve been shooting, tell us about a memorable shoot that comes to mind.
In the last few years, there have been a few times my babies (note “my”) have done things they haven’t done before. For example, one cutie started crawling for the first time in my shoot, three others took their first steps during my shoots.
The exciting part here is not just their new milestone, but the excitement on the parents’ faces, which makes it all worth it.
Another situation is when babies refuse to get off my extra soft fur blankets or fall asleep on them.
How did Toit become a part of your life?
Toit opened a few months before I moved to Bangalore and since it was next door, it became my go to place. Besides the beer, which is awesome, it’s the food and the consistency in taste that keeps me coming back.
Pretty much all my celebrations have been at Toit.
Any fun/crazy memories that come to mind at Toit?
Pretty much all my celebrations have been at Toit. My biggest one being when I quit my job to start Mommy Shots.
Are you a beer person? (If yes, what’s your favourite at Toit?)
Yes ! And Weiss is my favourite here, although I wait for their Aam Admi Ale every summer, which is the best!
What do you think about Baby Pageants and Honey BooBoo?
I haven’t seen Honey BooBoo, but baby pageants are a big no-no in my world. We’re getting children to think of it all wrong too early.
